Mock OS X in a browser

From wikipedia, “Rich Internet Applications are web applications that have most of the characteristics of desktop applications.”  Well I’ve tried to go a little bit beyond these characteristics and create a real mock desktop web application. It’s called Mock OS X🙂 and created with PrimeFaces.

macosx

Example is built with several PrimeFaces components such as dialog, dock, growl, menubar and so on. It’s not very functional however sets a nice base example to start with. It took me 2-3 hours to create this example since everything is almost ready with PrimeFaces, I’ve just cooked it:)

If you want to check out the Mock OS X in action, visit the online demo.

  1. The dock at the bottom is really slick (and smooth).🙂 Nice demo!

BTW, how does PrimeFaces compare with IceFaces?

  2. Well, I don’t think I’m the right person to answer this question Jess🙂

  3. np… just was curious if you had experience with both.

    Hi Cagatay,
    very good work!
I think PrimeFaces is the best jsf framework if you want create web 2.0 sites.

A little suggestion for a new ui component…

What do you think about integrate a Virtual Keyboard (http://sourceforge.net/projects/jsvk/ or http://www.greywyvern.com/code/javascript/keyboard) in your framework?
If you want to create a simple web app like desktop gui, usable with touch screen, you need a simple floating div at bottom of page, with a virtual keyboard , which open on onclick of inputtext…
    i thinking my iphone keyboard…

    bye

  6. Awesome idea fiorenzo, thanks a lot for your suggestion. I’ll add this to our issue tracker and probably implement it in version 0.9.3. Thanks again for your feedback!

    Hi Cagatay,

Prime Faces is challenging more and more the well established JSF component libraries. What do you think about adding support for iPhone specific widgets like Apache Trinidad does?

    bye

  8. Hi Christian, good thing you pointed out the mobile support. I can’t tell much right now, but PrimeFaces has a surprise coming soon regarding iphone🙂
